DR. MIRIAM BÖNISCH

I was born and raised in the southeast corner of Austria. After completing my general medicine education at the University of Innsbruck, I returned to my hometown and began my specialist training at the regional hospital in Steyr. In 1990 I started practicing in the ENT department, and during this time I had the opportunity to receive very broad based instruction in surgery. In addition to carrying out approximately 2100 routine operations, I was also able to become familiar with micro-surgical procedures such as the correction of hearing problems. After spending several weeks in Amsterdam working with Professor Nolst Trenité, the President of the European Plastic and Aesthetic Facial Surgery Association, I decided that this was the field in which I wanted to focus my efforts.

An important part of my further education was my time spent working in Chicago (US) with Professor E. Tardy, one of the most well-respected nose surgeons in the world.

While working in my surgical practice, I was also involved in scientific research. One outcome of this was a worldwide first: the utilization of an independently dissolving plastic plate in nasal surgery. Using my surgical technique, it became possible to easily and dependably correct extreme deformities of the nose. As recognition of the usefulness of my procedure, the technique has been covered in the more well-known specialist publications, and I’m also frequently invited to present my method at international conferences. In order to broaden the practice of modern nasal surgery, I also arrange surgical courses during which experts from around the world demonstrate their methods.

So that I can better focus on my specialty, my private practice has been almost exclusively centered around the field of functional and aesthetic nasal surgery since 2002.

On the 29th of September 2007 I successfully defended my postdoc work entitled “The Reconstruction of the Nasal Septum with the PDS Plate” at the Science Academy in Pécs (Hungary).

I was also born and raised in southeastern Austria. I completed my nursing education at the regional hospital in Steyr in 1991. Following I worked in surgical and outpatient care in the ear, nose and throat department. I completed my specialist training in surgery in 2000; the topic of my thesis was “Nasal Surgery at the Steyr Regional Hospital”. In order to further advance in my career, together with Dr. Bönisch I left the hospital where I was part of the well-run outpatient and surgical teams for many years.
