Aesthetic Ear Correction
It can be difficult to describe what a beautiful ear looks like. The ears should not be too prominent, and the folds and lines should look natural. If on the other hand the ears are too noticeable, for example if they stick out or are simply too big, or they are otherwise deformed in some way, the result can be a notable amount of psychological discomfort. There are two most common problems with the appearance of the ears.
Ears that stick out too much
The most common ear deformity is ears that protrude too far from the head – such a condition can be rather socially uncomfortable for a person with such ears. It’s usually the case that either the upper or middle part of the ear is affected. This ear condition is a birth anomaly.
Ears that are too big
This condition often occurs in combination with ears that protrude excessively. One or both of the ears can be too large, or the ear lobes can be too long.
Surgical correction is possible. This is accomplished by making an inconspicuous in the skin, either on the back side of the ear or in a fold on the front of the ear. The cartilage is then repositioned. In the same way the size of the ear can also be reduced.
The goal of the operation is an ear that looks natural and is in the right position.
The procedure is generally carried out on an outpatient basis under local or general anesthesia. A supportive strap has to be worn around the head for a week, and 7-10 days after the operation the healing is at a stage that you’ll be completely ready to face the world again.
As for properly timing such an operation for children, there are two possibilities: either before the child starts school (to avoid teasing) or later when the child can make the decision for themselves. Of course adults can undergo the procedure anytime.
